Getting started

Just saw my second high school softball game of the season today, and it leaves you itching for more. Fortunately, New Jersey will be up and running this week, including a couple of dandies in Burlington County on Tuesday with Northern Burlington at Rancocas Valley and Florence at New Egypt.
Is this the year Florence finally beats New Egypt? Who knows, but the Flashes are due and won't have to deal with Shannon Houston anymore. How many times did she kill "Title Town, U.S.A.'' It's also great Brian Wolverton is still at NBC. I thought we might lose him to Rutgers-Camden, but that didn't work out and from a selfish viewpoint, we're glad of it.
Anyway, we got to the Conwell-Egan game today and it was an 8-1 victory for the top-ranked team over Council Rock North. The game was delayed at the start because the batter's box was laid out incorrectly - what's up with that Mike Tos? - but it was business as usual once things got started. Rock North actually went ahead in the first, which is kind of unusual because Angel Bunner rarely gives up a run unless her team is well ahead.
Our first area ratings came out today and we heard one guy was grumbling at 6:30 this morning because Pennsbury is ranked behind Conwell-Egan.
Hey, let's not forget who won the game last year. Pennsbury is as awesome as ever, but Conwell-Egan deserves that ranking until somebody takes the PCL team down.
It was also nice to report in today's paper Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry is feeling better after getting pneumonia. Without him at the game this week, it was really wierd.
Anyway, this blogging thing is new to me, but it would be great to hear from you and get your imput. We welcome your opinions and comments, although hopefully we can skip the thing of parents telling us how great their daughter is.
Get ready for a great high school season. Next up is Steinert at Allentown Monday in a matchup of two state finalist from last year. It will be interesting to see if the Redbirds can adequately replace Sansouci and Ryan in the circle.
Throw in teams like Notre Dame and Peddie, and Mercer County softball is as good as anywhere in the state. The CVC had two state champs last year and a runner-up. There's no other conference that can boast that.
This blog is also for rec softball, which will fire up in two weeks with leagues like Ewing and Hamilton getting underway. For those who are wondering, the entry form for the19th annual Trentonian Tournament will begin to be placed in the mail later this week. If there's any team that needs one, contact me at 1-800-806-7705 (press 6 for sports) on weeknights and we'll be glad to hook you up. The second largest tourney in the world is about the same as last year, although there's a new Class D for the men on the first weekend and a fourth women's bracket for higher Class E teams and lower Class Ds. As always, teams can report their scores each night to The Trentonian at the above number between 5 and 9:30 p.m.
